Description

Classic late-colonial saltbox home listed with both the Nantucket Historical Association and the Nantucket Preservation Trust. It retains most of the architectural features and original wood with which it was built 210 years ago, four years before Thomas Jefferson became President. The house is accessible by the front door and by a door in shed in the rear. The front door has a small porch outside with two benches built into the balustrades. The brick driveway is to the right of the house and one can access the back yard through a gate in the fence at the back of the driveway. When one enters, stairs are in front that ascend to the second floor. To the right is a hallway leading back to the dining room. To the left is a doorway leading to the living room. Once in the living room, a door in back of the room leads to the study/library which itself connects to the dining room. A half-bath connects the study with a small hallway to the kitchen and back stairway. A butlers pantry connects the dining room with the kitchen. The rear door leads out into a small yard. The second floor contains the master bedroom with a queen bed in front and a full bath (with French shower) which in turn connects to a middle bedroom with two twin beds. Three doorways in the middle bedroom lead into a front hallway; the master bathroom; and to the rear bedroom and rear stairs. The back bedroom has a full, conventional bath, a double bed and may be accessed either through the middle bedroom or from the back stairway. All bedrooms by be closed off. A stairway continues from the second floor to the third floor which has a bedroom with two single beds and a full bath without a shower. Fireplaces adorn the living room , dining room and master and middle bedrooms, a typical design with the location of a central chimney.
